BIO
Dr. David Budden is a Research Scientist at Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Computer Science and AI Laboratory (MIT CSAIL), an Associate of the Harvard Visual Neuroscience Group and founding Chief Technology Officer of two VC-backed Australian tech startups, with offices spanning from Brisbane to Beijing and Boston. He has previously developed machine learning software solutions at CSIRO, Google and IBM Research.

David is an alum and Conjoint Lecturer of the University of Newcastle’s School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

ABSTRACT
“Why am I learning this?” 
“Will I ever use it in the real world?”

Probably not. That’s actually the point.

It’s easy to lose your way as a student. It’s even easier with the compounding pressure from family and friends to know what that way is. By stepping back to gain an understanding of the true purpose and power of your degree within the context of the rapidly-evolving technology industry, you will be better equipped to (a) filter out the background noise of critical social commentary, and (b) plot a trajectory directly to the top of your chosen field. (Although you probably don’t know what that is – that’s okay, too!)

David will also give a live demonstration of how to land a job at Google.
